What You Will Experience on a Skippered Sailing Trip in Greece

Our Team – Meet Your Skippers

We are a small, boutique yacht charter company with one simple philosophy: every sailing trip in Greece should feel personal, relaxed, and genuinely authentic. Freedom and Albatross are family-owned sailboats, and behind them are the two of us—Adriana and Radu. We don’t see our guests as “clients,” but as people we truly enjoy sharing our love for the Greek islands with, through carefully planned, skippered sailing experiences.

Meet Edouard

Edouard is a passionate sailor who began his journey as a sailing instructor in northern France five years ago. After sailing in the  Mediterranean, including Greece, Spain, southern France, and Italy, it was Greece that captivated him. Returning to the Cyclades, he leverages his in-depth knowledge of the region to provide a unique and safe sailing experience.

Since his childhood, he had the privilege of sailing with his father, an experience that profoundly shaped his love for the sea. A few years ago, he decided to get back into sailing, which felt like a true rebirth!

Greece, with its breathtaking landscapes and fascinating culture, have reignited his passion for navigation. He am delighted to share this joy of sailing and exploring these beautiful waters with those around him.

Every outing at sea is an opportunity for Edouard to pass on this passion and create unforgettable memories!

Meet Adriana & Radu

Adriana and Radu are the owners of Freedom and have sailed thousands of miles across the Greek islands over the past 14 years. What began as a shared passion for adventure has grown into deep local expertise - they now know the Cyclades and surrounding islands like the back of their hand and proudly call Greece home.

Adriana is your main point of contact from the very first email to the moment you disembark. Having organized hundreds of private sailing trips and yacht charters in Greece, she has a natural ability to understand what each group is looking for and to shape the experience accordingly. She will guide you through the planning process, answer every question, and make sure you know exactly what to expect from life on board.

Radu is a highly experienced skipper with an exceptional knowledge of the Greek seas. Calm, focused, and deeply familiar with the Cyclades’ sailing conditions, he takes great pride in offering safe, enjoyable, and flexible sailing routes. His local insight often leads guests to quiet bays, authentic villages, and special places rarely found in guidebooks—turning each sailing cruise into a truly memorable journey.

How much does a yacht charter in Greece cost?

The rates below are for the entire yacht (not per person), making a private sailing experience accessible for couples, families, and small groups alike.

A private sailboat charter in the Greek islands allows you to explore multiple destinations in one seamless journey—without packing and unpacking, hotel check-ins, ferry schedules, or organizing day trips. You unpack once, and each day brings a new island, bay, or harbor village, with your yacht serving as both transportation and accommodation. It’s one of the most flexible and rewarding ways to experience the Greek islands, with less logistics and more time on the water.

We offer our guests the advantage to pay a flat rate prior to setting sail, and that’s it!

After surfing the web and looking at different options for your sailing vacation, you might have noticed most of the other charter companies structure their yacht rental similarly to renting a car. Their charter rate covers the price of hiring the yacht itself (just like the car rental price covers the car itself). Excluding all other aspects/costs involved for example; fuel, toll rates, parking fees, these are costs that you are expected to cover as you go.

With similar structure, when you are budgeting for your sailing holiday, with most charter companies you will have to add on top of the charter rate, the other expenses involved as they appear. The trouble with this approach, is that for a yacht the total/ final price including the extras is considerably higher than the base rate. This makes it difficult for the charterer to figure out the total price he will end up paying (an aspect that will naturally make him worried or anxious).

For example, the rate applied for skipper services is pretty much standard for all companies (200 - 260 euro/day),however, all the other costs will vary according to many factors. For example; fuel consumption depends how long the engine will be running - more specifically on the wind conditions and distances to your favorite destinations. You might be wondering - "But won't we be sailing most of the time-why are we discussing fuel?' Please read below the paragraph marked with **

So we are taking a different approach. In order to avoid the hassle of having an expense account open , we have grouped everything in the : "All costs included" combo of 350 euro/day Our bundle includes ALL expenses associated with chartering the sailing yacht (fuel, skipper, final cleaning, etc) that will guarantee you a worry free vacation. You won't have to keep an expense account. You simply pay a one-time flat rate (350 Euro/day/boat - divided between the members of your group) prior to setting sail, and that’s it! Much easier to plan and budget for! No hidden costs, no surprises at the end of the trip.

** How much will we be sailing / motoring?Well...it all depends on the wind conditions and the distance to the next destination. So let's take for example a sail from Mykonos to the port of Paroikia in Paros; a distance of 28 nautical miles (a good average).

  • With favorable winds, a sailboat is perfectly capable of reaching this destination under sail. Assuming good wind conditions (10-12 knots or more) a sailboat would be travelling at a regular speed around 7 nautical miles/hour. Hence, we would be covering the 28 nautical miles in circa 4 hours.
  • However, if the winds are very mild or you have head winds, the speed of the boat will drop significantly to as low as 2-3 nautical miles/hour. As a result, if you try to save on fuel, you would be covering the same distance in 9-10 hours (no time left for swimming or exploring the island you are headed to). This is when the engine becomes your best friend! It will help you to travel at speeds of 7 knots again. Allowing you to reach your destination at a reasonable time. This is an important aspect for many of our guests. Realising that a regular day on board is divided into several parts, for example; 3-5 hours sail time to your destination, 1-3 hours stop for a swim, the late afternoon/evening for exploring the islands you reach, on-shore activities, exploring the villages and dinner).
  • With a 4 hours travel there's time to mix all these in a single day.

We are flexible with trip length and can tailor anything from a classic 7-day sailing holiday in Greece to shorter escapes of 6, 5 or even 4 days, depending on availability and dates. If the duration you have in mind isn’t listed above, feel free to contact us for a personalized quote.
While 6–7 days offer the most complete and relaxed sailing experience, guests find that 4–5 days still allow for a beautifully varied route and a true sense of island hopping. Shorter trips can certainly be arranged, but the longer you stay on board, the more diverse the sailing, destinations, and overall experience become.

ONE WAY TRIPS : Upon request, we can sometimes arrange one-way sailing trips in the Greek islands, starting or finishing your charter at a different island. Our primary base is Paros (and Mykonos during selected weeks), though alternative pickup or drop-off points may be possible with prior planning.
Click here to show / hide more details

Because the yacht must reposition without guests, a one-way fee applies.

Because the boat must sail empty to or from the alternative location, a one-way fee applies. This reflects the real operational costs involved, including fuel, skipper time, and charter days during which the boat is unavailable. Depending on distance and logistics, this fee typically ranges between €650 and €1,450.

That said, starting and ending your sailing holiday in Paros is often the most rewarding option. Centrally located in the Cyclades, Paros allows us to design flexible sailing itineraries that follow the best wind and sea conditions, rather than committing to a fixed direction. One-way routes can occasionally require sailing into less favorable weather simply to reach a specific endpoint—when conditions in another direction might offer a smoother, more enjoyable experience.

For this reason, round-trip Paros itineraries usually deliver the best balance of sailing quality, destination variety, and overall comfort. One-way trips remain a great solution when travel plans require them, and we’re always happy to advise on what works best for your dates and priorities.

Feel free to contact us to discuss availability, possible routes, and the most suitable setup for your Cyclades sailing cruise.

Our perfect Greek island adventure
Our time with Adriana and Radu on board Freedom was phenomenal!
You can’t ask for a better guide and captain to the Greek islands. They made a personalized plan for us each day based on the weather and our preferences and each recommendation was spot on.
They are always looking for ways to make your trip even better than you imagined. They are experts at being discreet and giving you space to enjoy your holiday in private, but we enjoyed talking to them and getting to know them so much that they became an amazing addition to our trip!
We can’t recommend them enough and hope to be on board with them again someday soon! It’s like travelling with local friends who know all the BEST spots, who also have the most amazing boat and take care of all the logistics!!
It really can’t get better

An unforgettable, magnificent & memorable trip!
After researching many charter companies in the Cyclades, we chose Blue Water because of their reputation as a family run business with hand-picked skippers who enjoy exploring off the beaten path. We were absolutely thrilled with our experience!
Our skipper, Edouard, was exceptional. He consistently found the most stunning turquoise-blue bays for swimming, snorkelling, and paddle boarding and moored us in beautiful, peaceful spots with a charming taverna or two nearby for the evening. He was able to guide us to charming towns and restaurants everywhere we went.
Edouard was the perfect fit for our family being friendly, personable, professional, and knowledgeable. He struck the ideal balance of being present and helpful & giving us space when needed. He even joined in our many games with great humour and patience!
As an excellent sailor, Edouard made sure we were under sail whenever conditions allowed which was an highlight and we learnt slot. When we asked, he involved us in the process, clearly explaining what was required but equally, was totally happy to sail without our input.
From start to finish, Blue Water’s communication was excellent and reassuring, helping us feel confident that we were in great hands which we absolutely were. We thoroughly recommend you sail without this lovely company. A fantastic, unforgettable trip!

Fabulous Experience
We had a wonderful 6 night trip onboard The Albatross, our skipper Edouard was excellent. We visited 7 different islands, with lots of opportunities to swim & snorkel, and were lucky enough to see 2 magnificent turtles.
Edouard was friendly & knowledgable, able to give us advice on the best Tavernas to visit & the areas to explore. It was perfectly tailored to our requirements.

Trip of a lifetime
If you’re like our family, you want to visit a nice mix of the Greek Islands but have no idea where to start/which islands to pick/etc. Stop stressing and book a sailing trip with Blue Water Sailing Greece!
The clear and prompt communications we shared with Adriana well in advance of our trip put us at ease with questions on cost, potential itineraries and what to bring on board. It was so nice to meet her in person before boarding the Freedom with our captain Radu.
Having never been on a sail boat, the Freedom exceeded our expectations. Boat was absolutely spotless upon boarding while providing great sleeping accommodations, wonderful place to hang out above/below deck, enough conveniences like fridge/stove for quick breakfasts/snacks and the snorkel gear/stand up paddle board made it tough to leave the beautiful swimming coves each day!
The MVP award goes to Radu who made us feel at ease the moment we set sail. We shared some great conversations about the islands we planned to visit and sailing in general. He took us to the most picturesque swimming holes that have us still dreaming about the crystal clear blue waters of Greece. Each evening after pulling into our island destination for the night, he reviewed the map of the island with some of his favorite things to see, clear direction on transportation whether walking/taxi/local bus options best to town and great spots for shopping/dinner. Getting back to the boat was as easy as messaging or calling him and awaiting his swift pick up from shore on the dinghy. Capping off the day on deck with a nightcap under the stars overlooking some amazing island destinations was perfect. The final highlight while sailing back to Paros was coming across some dolphins that enjoyed playing in our boats wake. Radu made sure to circle the area so we could soak up this wild encounter and get plenty of pictures and videos.
Such a unique way to see various islands in Greece. Amazing trip, amazing people to work with and we can only hope to sail with Adriana and Radu again one day..

A wonderfully curated and executed sailing experience in the Cyclades
The sailing trip with my husband in the Cyclades could not have been better with Adriana and Radu at Blue Water Sailing Greece. From the beginning, Adriana adjusted our route based on the winds and what we wanted out of the trip. She really curated the best route for the most time on the water sailing, seeing the more rural islands, and swimming in the most picturesque spots. Radu proved to be an incredible skipper to guide us on our adventure. We jammed with him over some great music while he navigated us from island to island - experiencing different kinds of water and sailing conditions along the way. It was very much appreciated how he was able to suggest many different spots on each island to eat or explore. The entire time we felt that we were in safe, knowledgeable, and capable hands with him and always felt welcomed and comfortable.
Our favorite moments were just being on the water sailing, but if we had to choose a favorite island we visited it would be Amorgos! So many different experiences in a single island (all thanks to the recommendations of Radu)!
We had such an amazing experience and would 1000% recommend sailing with Blue Water Sailing Greece.

TripAdvisor member Isaiah A
Custom sailing trip crafted on passenger desires coupled with the best travel experience for the current weather pattern
Our family of five just spent almost a week sailing with Adriana and Radu.
We had the most amazing experience. Adriana spent time at the beginning to grasp our interests and pair that with the current weather conditions to help craft the best experience. With each stop, she recommended various options based on our desires and was a wealth of information.
As we sailed between sites, Radu pointed out interesting waypoints. His knowledge of the dynamics of sailing and the mechanics of the boat were very impressive. At each stop, regardless of island destination or secluded swim coves, Radu was always a call away when we were ready to depart.
Never were we hurried thru a stop or bored and waiting on a fix itinerary. Our trip was our own making fully enabled by two wonderful sailors/hosts.
I highly recommend Blue Water Sailing! You won’t be disappointed

Itinerary for a 5–6 Day Island-Hopping Sailing Trip in Greece or a 3–4 Day Short Greek Islands Escape

Click here to see some options of routes for your 3–6 Day Sailing trip in the Greek Islands.

Explore a selection of short sailing itineraries in the Cyclades, ideal for a 3–6 day private yacht charter in Greece. Sailing from Paros, you’ll find an exceptional concentration of nearby islands, secluded bays, and charming harbor villages—making island hopping by sailboat perfectly suited even to shorter sailing trips.

Every short sailing holiday in Greece is planned around the prevailing wind and sea conditions, allowing us to design the best possible route for the time you have on board. With fewer days, itineraries focus on nearby highlights and smooth sailing distances, while longer trips allow for greater variety, slower pacing, and access to more off-the-beaten-path destinations.

A Fully Customized Sailing Itinerary

We see every trip as a personal sailing adventure, and our goal is to make the most of your time at sea—whether that means a compact, island-hopping getaway or a longer journey with more stops, swim bays, and island exploration. The more days you have, the more freedom and variety your sailing experience can offer.

What’s next? Let’s start planning!

Getting started is simple. Just get in touch and tell us whether you’re considering a full-week sailing holiday or a shorter 4–6 day yacht charter in Greece.

If you’re still finalizing details, we’re happy to hold your preferred dates free of charge for a few days. This gives you time to check flights, coordinate with your travel companions, and compare options—without the worry that your dates or boat availability might disappear.

Meal options – Eating during your sailing trip

Dining Ashore – Local Flavors of the Greek Islands.

One of the great pleasures of a Greek islands sailing trip is how effortless dining ashore can be. Nearly every island has a small port or village within easy walking distance of the yacht, lined with traditional tavernas, cafés, and seaside bars. From relaxed breakfasts to late-night dinners, you’ll find excellent, reasonably priced options just steps from the boat. Enjoying fresh local dishes at a waterfront taverna, with the sea right in front of you, is an essential part of the sailing experience in Greece.

Meals on Board – Flexible & Easy.

If you prefer a evening on board, our sailboats are fully equipped for onboard meals. Each yacht features a fridge, a cooker with two burners and an oven, plus complete galley equipment for simple, casual cooking. Provisioning is easy during your yacht charter in Greece — every island has small supermarkets or local markets within a short walk of the marina. This flexibility lets you mix dining ashore with relaxed meals on board, depending on your mood and plans.

Life On Board & Ashore – Activities During Your Sailing Holiday in Greece

A sailing holiday in Greece offers far more than just time at sea. A private yacht charter in the Greek islands blends sailing, exploration, culture, and relaxation into a beautifully varied daily rhythm. From swimming in secluded bays to village strolls, archaeology, hiking, and vibrant evenings ashore, every day of your Greek islands sailing trip feels like a complete vacation in itself.

During your sailing cruise in Greece, you may enjoy a mix of the following activities - depending on your interests, the islands visited, and sea conditions:

How Long Should You Plan Your Sailing Trip to Experience the Greek Islands?

The ideal length of a sailing trip in Greece depends on your interests and the time you have available. Simply put, the more days you spend on board, the more freedom you’ll have to explore different Greek islands and enjoy a relaxed, well-balanced sailing holiday in Greece.

On a private skippered sailing trip, each day typically introduces a new destination - quickly revealing how unique each island is, from landscapes and villages to local cuisine and atmosphere. With 5–6 days on board, your itinerary becomes far more flexible, allowing us to adapt to weather conditions, sail at an easy pace, and include a wider mix of islands, scenic bays, swimming stops, and authentic island experiences.

Shorter sailing cruises of 3–4 days can sometimes be arranged for specific dates, but with fewer days the route naturally focuses on nearby highlights and offers less variety. If your schedule allows, we strongly recommend 5–6 days or more, as it delivers a richer, smoother, and more immersive Greek islands sailing experience without ever feeling rushed.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.
