Are you planning to visit Mykonos and Santorini and thinking what the best and most fun way is? A sailing holiday would offer the opportunity to visit not only these 2 most famous Greek islands but also a multitude of other islands (which you might end up liking even more):
Naxos (and its landscapes, mountains and fertile valleys, history, temples)
Paros ( and it’s incredibly pretty villages like Naousa, Lefkes and Paroikia)
un-spoiled Kythnos and
Ios ( with its world –knows nightlife), just to name a few.
Sometimes our guests wonder if they can sail to Mykonos and Santorini during their time on board Albatross. The answer is : " Sure ... provided you have enough days on board".
2 WEEK TRIP : People planning to sail for 2 weeks or more need not to worryv- there will be enough time to visit both Mykons and Santorini( plus another 10-11 islands in between) as you can see at 14 days itinerary
1 WEEK TRIP : However groups planning to spend only 1 week sailing in Greece should have in mind that due to the distance, a sailing trip like Athens - Mykonos - Santorini - Athens is impossible in such a short time on board.
A trip like Athens - Mykonos - Santorini -Athens (stopping at the islands in between) is over 300 nautical miles. A sailboat travels with around 6-8 nautical miles/hour thus it's easy to calculate MANY, MANY hours on board for a trip just in order to cover the distance.
Basically you would spend most of the time at sea, with no time left to explore the islands, stop in a bay, swim or enjoy the places you arrive at since most of the time will be transferring from one place to the next. And as fun as sailing might be, nobody can enjoy a "touch and go trip" where you just reach and island and you have to depart immediately.
But no worries: if your program only allows a 7 day sailing cruise, you can sail Athens- Mykonos and back ( with respect to weather conditions) - you can see several itineraries at 7 days sailing itinerary. Upon disembarkation you can get a plane ( multiple connections daily Athens-Santorini) and get to Santorini in only 45 minutes and for only around 50-60euro. For schedule/rates of airtickets please see viva tavel website.
At the link above you will also be able to check ferry schedules (multiple connections daily as well).
Note: ferry schedule is usually announce only a few months before.
