Sailing in Autumn - visiting Greece September - November

The climate in the Greece allows sailing from all year round.

Do you dream about taking a romantic walk or exploring traditional little villages with cubical white washed houses and get lost in the labyrinth of tinny cobblestone alleys? Or maybe try islands' delicacies at a traditional seaside tavern while admiring the perfect sunset over the sea? If this is your time of holiday then you might want to consider visiting September-mid November.

Autumn is probably the season to experience the best of the islands. Perfect temperatures ( warm, but not too hot) for those that love swimming but also exploring the islands and their archaeological sites without getting sunstroke.

Autumn is a great time to visit Greece, if you are looking to experience:

  • Swimming - the air temperature is around 25 -27 degrees Celsius and the sea temperatures stays at a very pleasant level(around 22-24 degrees Celsius).
  • The temperature is not exhaustingly hot! Mild and comfortable temperatures so you can enjoy different activities and explore the islands: walking, trekking and sightseeing. Explore the old stone footpaths is a delight no one should miss!
  • Visit ancient sites, Byzantine castles and museums.

  • Quiet pretty little villages.
  • Crowds return home - no more loud parties till the early hours.
  • Local life.
  • Authentic experiences. After mid October the visitor has the chance to see best of the countryside. This is when the locals press grapes to make wine, harvest the olive trees for that delicious olive oil, gather fruits and make jams, produce traditions drinks (like tsipouro and raki).

  • Unique natural environments.
  • Dinners at seaside traditions taverns.
  • Jumping off the boat at an isolated bay - no other people around- just your small piece of paradise.
  • Best sunsets - the cirrus clouds which sometimes cover the horizon make spectacular sunsets.
  • Competitively priced services.

Can you think of a better way to spend your autumn holidays?

The drawbacks:

  • The day is shorter.
  • There might be rain some of the days (usually from November on). Although this should actually be seen as an advantage as the islands get greener and greener after each rain - in autumn the nature comes back to life after the summer draught.
